Why Hullo Hullo Cake caught my eye
Walk the side streets of Seongsu-dong 2-ga, away from the big warehouse cafés, and you may spot a small white light-box sign that says HULLO HULLO in chunky blue letters. Below it, a wide window is framed by ruffled white curtains, with “CAKE SHOP” and a line repeated three times in blue: make every day special with Hullo Hullo Cake. A display cake sits on a little blue table under a lace cloth, and a sandwich board by the step shows the shop's doodle-style logo.
It looks like a café, but it is really a custom cake studio. Hullo Hullo makes the cream-cheese-frosted lettering cakes that Koreans order for birthdays, farewells and small celebrations, along with character and doodle designs. If you are living in Seoul and want a proper Korean-style celebration cake, it is one of the friendlier small shops to try.
The cakes: what's inside
According to the shop's own ordering guide, the sponges are baked in-house, and you choose between two:
- Vanilla — the light, simple standard sponge.
- Chocolate (+KRW 1,000) — made with Valrhona chocolate from France, and described as rich but not very sweet.
The filling cream is 100% dairy whipped cream, which gives that fresh, milky taste Korean cakes are known for. The outer frosting is cream cheese, so it is thicker and slightly tangy, and it holds lettering and drawings neatly. You can also add crushed Oreo inside for KRW 2,000, which the shop says goes with either sponge.

A few small add-ons: heart or square shape +KRW 1,000, and a lettering plaque +KRW 1,000 (size 1 and up).
If you are new to Korean cakes, the lunchbox cake is the one to know. It is a 10 cm cake for one or two people, packed in a clamshell box like a lunchbox, and it has become the go-to small gift for a friend's birthday or a coworker's last day. A size 1 feeds about four to six people.
The same-day bear cake
Most designs need an advance order, but Hullo Hullo keeps one shortcut: a same-day cake with a brown bear in a fixed design. It is sold first come, first served, and you can add a short message. This is the easiest option if you forgot a birthday, or if you are visiting Seoul and cannot plan around a pickup date. Arrive earlier in the day, as it can sell out.

- Pickup date and time
- Size and shape (for example, “lunchbox, heart”)
- Sponge: vanilla or chocolate, and whether you want Oreo
- Lettering: write the exact text, and say if it is in English or Korean
- A reference picture if you want a drawing or a specific style
Short, simple English is usually fine for a message like this; if you want to write in Korean, a translation app does the job. The shop's Instagram, @hullohullo_cake, is the best place to browse past designs and save a few as references.
Getting there and opening hours
Address: 11 Seongsui-ro 6-gil, 1F, Seongdong-gu, Seoul (서울 성동구 성수이로6길 11, 1층). Search 훌로훌로 케이크 or the Korean address in Naver Map or KakaoMap; Google Maps is not reliable for walking directions in Korea. The shop is in the Seongsu-dong 2-ga side streets, within walking distance of Seongsu Station (Line 2). Use live directions from where you are.
Closed: Mondays, per the Instagram profile and the door sign.
Hours and pickup: Pickup times are set when you order. For walk-ins, check Instagram or ask on KakaoTalk the same day.
Seating: It is a cake studio, not a sit-down café, so plan to take your cake away. Bring it home or to the party quickly, as cream cakes do not like warm weather.

Hullo Hullo is a good fit if you live in Seoul and want a cute, personalised cake for a Korean-style celebration: a friend's birthday, a farewell at work, or a small thank-you. Travellers with a free afternoon in Seongsu can try for the same-day bear cake. If you want a slice and a coffee at a table, pick a café instead and come here for the cake to take home.
